Formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1976, U2 started as a local band, comprised of four school friends: Paul ‘Bono’ Hewson on vocals, David ‘The Edge’ Evans on guitar, Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen Jr. on drums. The band, initially called “Feedback”, changed their name to “The Hype” before finally settling on U2.

U2 quickly gained recognition in the late 1970s for their passionate, spiritual sound and powerful live performances. They released their debut album “Boy” in 1980. The album was well-received and established U2 as a promising band on the international stage.

In 1987, they released their seminal album, “The Joshua Tree”, which catapulted them to global superstardom. With its socially conscious lyrics and atmospheric sound, it became one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Yet, they never lost sight of their roots, continuing to explore political and personal themes in their lyrics.
